Today, Amazon unveiled its long-anticipated smartphone, the
Fire Phone. It’s chock-full of amazing features that aren’t available to other smartphones on the market. Now choosing our next mobile toy just got harder.
Reasons why we love it
Some of the best and most innovative features is the 3D, 4.7 inch Gorrila Glass display with HD-resolution screen. While the size and resolution might not be groundbreaking, the 3D effects are stunning to the eye, and it even goes beyond Samsung’s smart-scroll to
full-on head tracking. That’s right. Pretty soon it will be reading your mind and answering e-mails for you! Just tilt, swivel or peek to discover all the options offered by its dynamic perspective, a custom-designed sensor that responds to how you hold and move your phone.
Photography enthusiasts will rejoice at the Fire Phone as well, with its quad camera set up
including a rear-facing, 13 megapixel beast. With multiple front-facing cameras, the device is able to deliver its incredible 3D images with smart HDR. Not only that, but people who sign up get unlimited cloud storage FOR FREE.
Because nobody suspects the Firefly
Firefly technology is also integrated into this phone in a very smart and effective way.
If you hear a song you like, take a picture of a book title, or phone number on a surface, press the
Firefly button on the side of the device and it will pretty much act like Shazam, identifying anything you point the camera to. It works with hundreds of thousands of songs, bookss and even movies and television show titles. This is particularly useful for addresses and phone numbers, relieving you from typing in long numbers in fields.
Good value, good price
Starting at $199 for a 32GB model, it’s a fair competition to all the heavy hitters on the smart phone market considering all that it can do. Varying prices come with service agreements, but the top caps at $749 without a plan and 64GB. It also includes a full free year of Amazon Prime, its media service, which streams hit TV shows, over a million songs, and hundreds of thousands of titles from its Kindle lending library. Considering the free cloud storage and ease of streaming services, getting a Fire Phone with a huge hard drive is not as necessary as it would be with a competitor’s device, unless you’re a big time music junkie and need your whole library with you all the time.
For someone who has always owned an iPhone and has been vehemently pro-Apple their entire lifetime, this poses a huge problem in my wait for the iPhone 6. It might just be time to switch to Android!
